Goodbye Lunch

We went to Terraco Italia for a farewell lunch.  Today we go back to Boston after a fun and exciting cultural experience in Brazil.

Historical city of Paraty

On Sunday and Monday we visited the colonial city of Paraty.  It is next to the sea and is an important historical city for Brazil. It was nice to be outside of the city and we got to go to the beach while we were there as well!

Exciting Week 4!

Monday we went to the Marcadao where we got to sample many new fruits, vegetables and Brazilian foods!
 On Tuesday we got to meet the secretary of energy of Sao Paulo Milton Lautenschlager.  We were featured on the São Paulo Energy website!  http://www.energia.sp.gov.br/lenoticia.php?id=530
Wednesday we went to the Museu do Futbol! Where we learned all about Brazilian soccer!


Thursday we visited the São João Landfill where we learned how trash is made into energy!

Friday we learned Capoeira, which is Brazilian dance fighting! We got a great workout!

This weeks site visits

This week we visited some of the renewable technologies that we have talked about in class. On Tuesday, we went to CPFL Solar Energy Research Company and Bosch, who specialize in flex engine technologies. Both were located in Campinas, a city an hour and a half North of Sao Paulo.  Wednesday, we went to an International Renewable Energy Conference in Sao Paulo, where we talked with companies who are at the fore front of renewable energy technologies! Thursday, we went to Henry Borden Hydroeletric plant in Cubatao, about an hour and a half south of Sao Paulo.

Learning Brazilian Culture and History

We went to a Brazilian Samba school to learn how to Samba and Forro on Friday! After, we went to the Latin American Memorial to learn about Latin American culture and see artifacts from each country.



Today we learned about the Photovoltaic solar energy, flex engines and Ethanol, and Hydroelectric technologies in class.  We also learned about the History of Brazil in the Independence Park. 
This week we are going to visit 3 renewable energy companies and go to an International conference on solar energy in Sao Paulo!!

Week 2 Adventures

This week we learned about policies for renewable energies in the US and Brazil and how fossil fuels are produced and effect our environment.  We went to visit the art museum Pinoacoteca do Estado where we learned about Brazilian artists and how the depict the history of Brazilian people in their art.  We heard from the leader of the Passe Livre movement here in Brazil and how they are working for the Brazilian people to get their voices heard to the government. We also learned about Brazilian music!
An exciting and fun week, which is not over yet!
Tomorrow we will be learning about Alternative Fuels and then going to have a lesson on how to Samba!

Great weekend full of culture!

This weekend we got immersed in Brazilian culture! Friday night we went to see a live Samba band play, Saturday we went to a street market that had antiques and Brazilian food and today we went to a futbol game to see São Paulo play Santos!! We are gearing up for a week of learning about Energy and fossil fuels and the history of Brazil!

Survival Portuguese

Today we learned how to speak some Portuguese to get around the city and some aspects of the culture. We also took a walking tour of downtown São Paulo and learned some history of how the city started.

We arrived safely!

Hello everyone!
Just a quick note to say we have arrived safely in São Paulo Brazil and are looking forward to starting our adventure.  We just had our first Brazilian meal and now are getting ready to see the school we will be taking classes at.
